Email Inbox to Zero

Emails to Zero

This is a special resource included for all STEP members in the STEP Library. While not a “requirement” of STEP, it has been incredibly helpful for many of our STEPpers, and it may be a project you implement once your STEP Command Central is built.

“Emails to Zero” is a process for using a few folders and simple steps to keep your inbox clear. This does not require that you organize or delete all old messages. It simply means sorting through the first 100 emails and moving the rest out of your inbox, so they are safely archived.

After the initial sort, you will maintain emails to zero by reviewing new incoming messages and responding, delegating, and/or filing the messages as needed.

Rules to Maintain Emails to Zero

  • Utilize the Two Minute Rule
  • Check your @Immediate Action Folder at the end of each day (Also, get your @Immediate Action folder to zero at least once a week.)
  • Use the @Tickler Folder to hold calendar related emails
  • Maintain Emails to Zero by assigning emails as they come
