I'm overwhelmed, how do I get started again?
When you feel overwhelmed and have SO many projects demanding your attention, it can be a challenge to know where to begin. You are not alone in feeling this way. We completely understand, and we also know that STEP can be a great help to you.
To begin, I would first encourage you to start with a Mindsweep and get all that is weighing on your mind out and written down.
Now, let's start with some foundational pieces to process this Mindsweep. I think it is helpful to start with these lists, and it can be as simple as one notebook, with a heading on each page:
- Next Actions List
- Current Projects List
- Next in Line Projects
- Someday projects (Master Mindsweep List)
- Routines & Responsibilities list
Just designate these lists, even if you don't fully use them as you get reacquainted with your system.
Let's start processing all that is on your mind:
- Pull out the simple one-step action items and put them on your next actions list.
Next, pull out all of the projects.
- If it must be done this month, put it on your current projects list.
- Can it wait until next month?
- Put it on your next in line projects list
- Can it wait until someday?
- Add it to your Someday Project list ( I also call this my Master Mindsweep list that I continue to add to as things come up.)
From there, focus on simply doing your daily review items:
- Calendar
- Check & sort Landing Spots (Mail, messages, texts, etc)
- Next Actions List
- Check and process Capture tool items
Start by focusing on your daily review items here, then work your way up to the weekly review and the other pieces of Command Central.
Baby steps... You CAN do this!!!
