Emotional attachments with kids items
We understand this can be SO HARD when you have emotional attachments to items that remain precious to you or your children. I, too, find myself immersed in memories as I go through items my kids loved!
In a previous conversation with April, she mentioned a few key ideas that I think can help you.
She used the example of some sheet music her Mom loved. April never used it or played it, but had a large amount of it just sitting in a box. Instead of keeping the big box of sheet music, she scanned her Mom's favorites and put them in Evernote as a keepsake, so she wouldn't need to keep the actual originals. Then you can decide whether to throw it away, donate it, or sell it. Make a pile for each, and then you have an organized way to sort through all of the items. Parting with an item doesn't mean you are parting with the memory!
We also suggest using a box or tote for each child every 5 years. Then, when your child leaves the house, they will, in essence, have 4 boxes to take with them from each time frame of their life. You can learn more about this here: https://powerofmoms.com/organizing-the-end-of-school-papers/.
I hope this was helpful. Just take it one day at a time.
