Context Based Next Actions List

The Context-Based Next Action List (often referred to as CBNAL or NAL) is a list used to manage all tasks to be completed in the week ahead.  The CBNAL is organized by context, which is where you are at the time.  Examples of contexts include: Home, Phone, Errands, Computer, and To Discuss.  (Feel free to adapt these contexts to fit your current season in life!)

A new CBNAL is created each week, and it holds both the very next action needed for your current projects, as well as any other random one-off tasks that also need to be completed this week.

You can also use this for "one-time" tasks, but the key is to use it for things you want to accomplish in a week.

It's key to note that if something MUST be done today or on a specific day, we call that a "date-specific task."  You can add that task to your planner or calendar on that date, and there is no need to add it to the CBNAL.

Projects have a monthly focus (no more than 7-8 total at one time), and only the very next action for each project goes on the weekly CBNAL.  Once that project task is completed, you can return to your project brainstorm and find the NEXT action item for the project and add it to your CBNAL.

This tool is fluid, having items crossed off and added as you go through your week.  At the end of the week, you create a new CBNAL. Using your calendar or planner, along with your CBNAL, helps you to feel in control and to have a purposeful week.
